      In order to understand comedy, you need to understand three different techniques.  Read the definitions below and click on the different links to see these definitions in action:


Satire - understating/overstating the flaws of an otherwise serious situation 

Nation Breaks Down

Irony - using words/situations opposite of the intended meaning

Situational, Dramatic, Verbal Irony

Parody - mocking the characteristics of the subject



Now, using the definitions and techniques we have discussed in class, dissect/deconstruct these different pieces.  Bearing in mind that explaining a joke is never funny, write an Deductive Response Paragraph answering the prompt: "What makes these comical?"  (BTW: I know that when you discuss something as being funny, it's never funny)
